- NIKA was required to design and provide infection control construction assemblies (ICRA) per NAVFAC requirements and maintain a clean and dust free environment during the construction process.
This project includes a complete but phased renovation of the existing Executive Medicine Clinic located on the first floor of Building 7 at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The area of renovation is approximately 7,100 sq. ft. and shall provide for new partitions, finishes, utilities and other associated infrastructure for the project. The existing clinic shall remain operational during normal business hours and provide a continuum though limited level of patient care during the renovation. A building expansion to house a lounge/break room to the north of the clinic is also planned and incidental related work.
NIKA examined the existing mechanical systems and determined that they were in good condition. It was also determined that the existing AHU was in good working order, however in order to accommodate the revised space and addition of the new lounge area, a new AHU will need to be provided.
The areas of renovation include procedure rooms associated with dermatology/minor surgery, cardiovascular, ENT/ophthalmology, private and shared offices, 10 examination rooms, nurses offices, new call center, new conference room, and education rooms.
NIKA’s services include the design of the interior fire alarm and mass notification system, building telecommunications cabling system, nurse call system, wet pipe sprinkler system and all other Fire Protection related services. Services shall be in accordance with this scope; Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) Design Criteria in the Whole Building Design Guide (WBDG).
